Responsibilities:

·                     Operating equipment to observe horizontal, vertical and electronic distances and differences in elevation; recording observed data; observing and recording astronomic and solar azimuth data; operating analytical photogrammetric positioning system; computing universal transverse Mercator grid information; computing geodetic information; computing instrument calibration data; operating hand held programmable calculators; observe and compile data to produce large scale plane table maps.

·                     Recording topographic survey data, operating survey equipment, performing topographic computations, constructing survey towers/stands, transporting, setting up, operating and maintaining equipment, drawing maps and charts using drafting tools such as easels, templates and compasses, making scale drawings of roads, airfields, buildings and other military projects, conducting land surveys and computing survey results, drawing diagrams for wiring and plumbing of structures, building scale models of land areas that show hills, lakes, roads and buildings, and using aerial photographs to form large photomaps.

A military decoration of the United States Army that was established by the Secretary of the Army. Awarded for the Successful completion of initial-entry training.

During this period SPC Baylis was instrumental in developing a complete and usable design for the ford site project given very limited time, work space, and equipment. His professionalism and dedication to the mission reflect great credit upon himself, the 231st Survey and Design Team, the 111th Engineer Battalion, the 1249 Engineer Battalion, and the United States Army.”
